Worship for Children

Our 5.30pm Saturday service is designed especially for families with small children but everyone is welcome. Families are equally welcome to our Sunday Eucharists at both Christ Church and St Mary’s, which provide a wide range of activities for younger people.

Christ Church Nursery Church: 0-4yrs

Church Nursery provides worship and play for our pre-school children up to and including their first term in Reception. We ask one parent or carer to stay with their child(ren) while the other parent (if applicable) joins the service.

What do we do?

Sessions start with a craft activity and free play and end with a short informal act of worship. This includes a short story from the bible, a song, prayers and finally the sharing of the peace. This service introduces children to worship and prepares them for attending church. An important part comes towards the end when children and their parents join the rest of the congregation in church.

Nursery Church meets in the Parish Hall every Sunday at 9.25am except for:

  • The Sunday of August Bank Holiday
  • The Sunday between Christmas and New Year
  • Harvest Sunday (1st Sunday in October)

If you have a yellow attendance card for your child in anticipation of attending the Church School please remember to ask for it to be signed at the beginning of the session as soon as you arrive. It is not possible to have them signed at the end so please don’t ask.

Christ Church Junior Church: 4-12yrs

Junior Church caters for children from the second term of Reception to the start of Secondary school. A parent or carer should accompany their child(ren) for the first few sessions until they become familiar with the routine.

What do we do?

The children gather in groups of their own age for an opening activity. This is followed by a short joint service and then more small group activities. Older children are encouraged to help lead the service by writing and reading prayers, for example, or performing a short play.

Children aged 8+ are then taken into Church to join the congregation. The younger ones are collected by their parents at 10.15am and taken back into the church for the last part of the service.

Junior Church meets in the Parish Hall every Sunday at 9.25am except for:

  • School holidays (including both Sundays of half term weeks)
  • Mothering Sunday
  • Palm Sunday
  • Harvest Sunday
  • Education Sunday

St. Mary’s Sunday School: 0-12yrs

Children aged from 0 to 12 are welcome at our friendly creche and Sunday School. Parents or carers can leave their little saints aged 3 or over with us and attend the church service in peace. Those of you with under-3s are welcome to stay and join in.

What do we do?

It’s informal, friendly and fun. We meet up for games, activities and bible stories before joining the rest of the congregation for the final part of the service. We look forward to seeing you!

St Mary’s Sunday School meets at the Warren Italian Clay Court Tennis Club HQ by the side of the church at 11am every Sunday except for:

  • School holidays (including both Sundays of half term weeks)
  • Education Sunday
  • Mothering Sunday
  • Palm Sunday
  • The Sunday of the Annual Parish meeting
  • Harvest Sunday
