A growing hobby
Over recent years, the Gardening Club has grown into a dedicated team of volunteers. We enjoy maintaining the gardens at Christ Church for the benefit and beauty of the Parish – and for the community of Wanstead as a whole.
A constant work in progress
We maintain the lawns and surrounding flower beds, the blooms of which are put to eye-catchingly good use by the Parish flower arrangers. The perimeter fence, hedges and trees also need regular tending. At the same time, we enjoy plenty of scope for creativity. The Memorial Garden, shade planting under the trees to the south gate, and the new beds by the hall are all splendid examples.
Something for everyone
Our members represent a wide range of ages and come from all walks of life. But we all share one passionate interest in common: to bring the joy of nature to as many visitors as possible. We aim to accommodate the skills of each member, whether that’s composting, planting, mowing, pruning, raking, weeding or even making coffee! And if you’re an enthusiastic beginner interested in developing your horticultural skills, we’ll do our best to help.
New members always welcome
The membership is very much open to all – and there is no obligation to attend every session. We meet on two Saturday mornings a month between 9.30am to 12:30pm. It’s healthy, rewarding, energising, stress-relieving, positive, and sociable activity open to all. A few hours spent making a real difference in the open air offers a truly satisfying feel-good factor. Why not come along and see for yourself?
