The “Friends of St. Mary with Christ Church” is a lively social organisation which raises money for the repair and maintenance of our two listed churches whilst ensuring a good time is had by all who attend its events.
Our parish is a very social parish with a variety of fundraising events held to appeal to a wide range of parishioners with differing cultures and tastes from young people and families to the more senior members of the parish.
The Friends hold quiz nights (with different themes) and “Stars in their Eyes” nights when members of the parish display their (sometimes surprising) singing and dancing talents. There has been a popular Salsa night with plenty of Latin music and moves. Click here to see photos of "Wanstead's Got Talent".
Annual favourites include the Friends' Ball - a chance to enjoy a fabulous dinner, a glass or two of bubbly, take part in the charity auction and then dance the night away.
Also popular is the summer family barbecue with entertainment, games and fun for all the family. Recent high-lights have been the bucking bronco and the parent and child three-legged races!.
The Friends also support the Wanstead festival weekend in September with a barbecue and cream teas.
By joining the Friends you are supporting the upkeep of our two historic churches but you also benefit from reduced admission to, and preferential allocations of tickets for, our most popular events.
It doesn’t cost a lot to join. Annual membership is £7 for an individual, £15 for a family and £5 for a senior citizen.
The fellowship that is engendered by attending or helping to organise such events means that we become more than a group of individuals who worship at our two churches- we become a parish family.
