Liz was born and brought up on the Isle of Wight, moving to the mainland for university and then to a career in education. Her daughter and step daughter are both grown up and live away from home; and she shares her home with a retriever and two cats. Liz came to Wanstead in July 2007 following her ordination and enjoyed the rich and varied ministry in this very vibrant parish as a curate.She is also a member of the Third Order of the Franciscans: a commitment which reflects her love for God’s beautiful creation and the joy that is God’s gift to us and which gently reminds us to work continually at following Christ’s way of humility and service. In March 2011 she was installed as the Rector of the parish.

The Revd Richard Wyber

The call to ordained ministry came to Richard relatively late in life, towards the end of a varied career based on his qualification as a Chartered Accountant. He joined the ministry team in Wanstead on ordination in 2006, although he lives with his wife and adult son up the road in Woodford Green.

Richard has an interest in small groups and group activities as a supplement to formal worship. Matthew 18.20; “For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them” is a verse with special meaning for Richard and reflects his own experiences.

Apart from his church duties he serves on the board of a substantial benevolent association. He enjoys travel, cultural activities (including reading, listening to music and looking at art) and used to be a morris dancer.

 

The Revd Megan Wylie-Smith

Megan spent her youth as an active Christian within various free churches. In 1983, she took a job as administrator of a large Anglican church and community centre in East Ham and fell in love with the written prayers and liturgy of the Anglican church. Having just been confirmed, she began her non-residential training for ordination. In 1991 following changes in the law permitting the ordination of women as deacons she was ordained. On 30 April 1994 after further changes allowed women to be priested, Megan and the 52 women deacons in the Diocese of Chelmsford were ordained priest (there are now 123 ordained women in the diocese) and then she worked on a deprived housing estate in Colchester, in West Ham and in Dagenham. She retired from there in 2001 because of the deterioration of her MS and moved into this parish with Ann Larkin. She is glad to serve as an honorary assistant priest.

Peter is a retired actuary, whose birth was marked by the Festival of Britain. He has lived in Wanstead since 1983 and been a reader since 1995.

As a farmer’s daughter, Olive's upbringing in rural Cumbria has influenced her response to God. She taught in Carlisle and then continued her career in education in London. She lives in Wanstead and has three grown up children She has been actively involved in the worship of the parish for a number of years.She became a Licensed Reader in 2009 after theological training at St. Mellitus College. Her spiritual focus is on the mission of the church and she is responsible for Soul Space – weekly prayers for consideration in the workplace. Her other interests are playing the organ, walking, travel and attending arts events.
